Who We Are

Ampelos is the Greek word for the vine.  We have chosen the name as a symbol of the fertility and opportunity.   We also believe that the god of wine, Dionysus, together with the god of lyrics, Apollon  will spread happiness and inspiration at Ampelos Resort.

Ampelos Resort was created, built and is managed by Rebecca and Peter Work and Anne, Theo and Fotis Papadopoulos. Anne and Fotis have lived on the island for 20 years.  Rebecca and Peter were married on Folegandros and spend a better part of the year on the island.

The inspiration behind the vine-theme comes from Rebecca and Peter, who also operate a vineyard and winery in California (www.ampeloscellars.com ). We believe that Greece has one of the world's best hidden secrets in its white and red wines.  We will be glad to share our experiences in this world of Dionysus with you.

The spirit of the resort comes from the wild, rough and mythical beauty of Folegandros itself.  It is an island that is still unspoiled by tourism - the tourists exist but in a form that has so far just added value to the island and its people.  You will get local Greek experiences on Folegandros that are hard to find in this part of the world. For this  reason as well as many others we have chosen Folegandros  to be a key part of our life.

Ampelos Resort is a new concept for us.  Anne and Fotis have worked with "active vacations" for 20 years.  Their experience will bring you respect for the people on the island, their life and history.  We will also bring you to the beautiful nature of the island, as respect for the local nature and people is of the island is a key part of having a fulfilling and inspiring  vacation. But as you stay at Ampelos you may spend most time with Theo, Anne and Fotis' son.  He was born and raised on Folegandros and knows it better than anyone.  He will help you from you arrive with transportation, checking in, practical matters and also enjoys a nice talk about his beloved island.  And he spends the winters as an actor in Athens.
